Los Angeles Galaxy to visit Seattle Sounders in MLS Season Opener

Major League Soccer will be hoping that David Beckham, Landon Donovan and Edson Buddle aren't all playing in Europe next March 15, when their Los Angeles Galaxy are scheduled to open the new season at the Seattle Sounders on ESPN.Playing the first game at Qwest Field in front of 40,000 fans is a no-brainer. Scheduling the Galaxy is a bit of a risk. Donovan already has been linked to Fulham and Newcastle United, and has made no secret about how much he enjoyed his sojourn at Everton last winter.

Landon Donovan Rumored For Newcastle Loan

The rumors surrounding Landon Donovan's offseason excursions took a twist Sunday when the British tabloid Sunday Sun reported the U.S. all-time leading scorer has been offered to Newcastle.The report, of course, must be taken with a grain of salt, especially when considering that Donovan told Goal.com he would only consider a loan during the MLS offseason if it was to Everton, where he earned rave reviews for a three-month stint last year.
Following unsuccessful spells earlier in his career with Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich, Donovan's European value skyrocketed during the past year, when he impressed with Everton and bagged three goals at the World Cup.
Everton manager David Moyes has not been shy about his admiration of Donovan, and the struggling Toffees could certainly use him to help steer clear of the relegation zone.
Newcastle, meanwhile, could be looking at Donovan as a replacement for winger Hatem Ben Arfa, whose leg was broken in October by -- who else? -- infamously violent Manchester City midfielder Nigel de Jong.

Ronaldinho to Spurn Galaxy, on Verge of Return to Brazil

The long-running rumors connecting Ronaldinho with the Los Angeles Galaxy apparently are a signature or two away from finally being silenced.The Brazilian icon and 2010 World Cup snub reportedly has agreed to terms with Grêmio, the club from his home town of Porto Alegre with which he began his career a dozen years ago.
Grêmio president Paulo Odone told RBS television on Wednesday that the contract terms are "all settled" and that all that remains is for the player to secure his release from AC Milan.
"Ronaldinho wants to go back to Grêmio, which is his home -- where he began playing football," Odone said.
The RBS interview is scheduled to air on Thursday, according to the club's Web site.
Ronaldinho joined Milan in the summer of 2008 after five years with Barcelona, which sold the player to the Italian giant for just under $30 million. His form and health have been inconsistent since. While he appeared revitalized during much of the 2009-10 season, he now has not started a Serie A match for the league leaders in more than two months.
Discussions between Ronaldinho and the Galaxy are thought to have been quite serious, and there was a definite possibility that the two-time FIFA world player of the year would come to Major League Soccer.

Inter Milan Defeats TP Mazembe, Claims FIFA Club World Cup

Its roster aging, its coach under fire and its domestic dominance on the wane, Inter Milan seized its golden opportunity on Saturday and defeated overmatched Congolese side TP Mazembe. 3-0, in the FIFA Club World Cup Final.The trophy capped an historic year for the Italian club, which captured a fifth consecutive Serie A crown, the Italian Cup and its first European Cup in 45 years last spring.
Led by Portuguese mastermind José Mourinho, Inter was a veteran team that had matured and reached its zenith in a comfortable win over Bayern Munich in the Champions League Final.
Mourinho moved onto Real Madrid, and replacement Rafael Benítez has been unable to prevent Inter's slide from the summit. The Nerazzurri lost to Atlético Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup and have opened the Italian season 6-4-5, good for seventh place in Serie A. It entered the Club World Cup winners of just two if its past nine matches in all competitions.
